There was a brief moment of confusion last week when former Syracuse Orange walk-on Nick Resavy was spotted at a high school game scouting players. How did...what does...can he...???
Resavy, who graduated this past year and completed his SU basketball career, has been thrust into the recruiting meat-grinder thanks to special circumstances in his new role with the SU staff.
Resavy was pressed into duty as one of Syracuse’s three designated on-the-road recruiters because SU head coach Jim Boeheim is missing most the July recruiting period while assisting with USA Olympic basketball team. In addition, Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins, who was the co-head coach of the USA National Select team, is also working with the Olympic team.
With Boeheim and Hopkins out of the mix, Syracuse was able to send a third representative on the road in addition to full-time assistants Adrian Autry and Gerry McNamara. The likely candidate would have been Lazarus Sims, but the long-time director of player personnel took a job as an assistant at Binghamton earlier this summer.
Not bad for a guy whose career is best remembered for a trick shot video. Resavy finished his career with eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 25 game appearances.
That also means the staff once again includes five former Syracuse players (Boeheim, Hopkins, Autry, McNamara, Resavy) even with the loss of Sims.
Congrats to Resavy on the gig and looking forward to seeing the next generation of Syracuse basketball player trick shot videos courtesy of someone he recruits.
