Once again, Drexel faces challenge in non-conference scheduling
Drexel’s RPI should be helped this season by the inclusion of Syracuse in the Dragons’ schedule, as Flint told Philahoops Tuesday that Drexel will play the Orange at the Carrier Dome this season. Other non-conference games for the Dragons include Illinois State, Rider, Princeton and Fairfield. Drexel also will compete in the Anaheim Classic, along with California, St. Mary’s, Xavier, Drake, Georgia Tech, Pacific and Rice.

The Orange on Tuesday reeled in power tailback Augustus Edwards (6-foot-1, 220 pounds). It would love to add Xaverian High’s Laray Smith to the fold as well. Smith (6-1, 175) is a track and football star at the Brooklyn school and possesses the type of explosive big-play burst the team has lacked for several years (he runs the 100 in 10.4 seconds). He is down to five finalists – SU, Connecticut, Tennessee, Oregon and West Virginia, with the first three already offering scholarships. A planned unofficial visit to SU two weeks ago was postponed when Smith’s father was hospitalized due to an illness.
