Tottenville's Augustus Edwards Chooses Syracuse

Running back Augustus Edwards, one of the most coveted high school players to come out of New York City this year, has verbally committed to Syracuse.

Edwards, who has a three star rating from both Scout and Rivals, claims offers from Boston College, Central Florida, Connecticut, Indiana, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Temple, Vanderbilt, and Virginia.

Edwards comes from Staten Island's Tottenville High School, where he played alongside current Syracuse freshman wide receiver Alvin Cornelius last season. Edwards rushed for 1,411 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season, and added one receiving touchdown and scored twice on kick returns. At 6'1", 210 lbs, Edwards utilizes a unique blend of size and speed as a running back.

One of the most exciting parts of the Edwards commitment for Orange fans is the fact that he and highly coveted four-star defensive end Ebenezer Ogundeko are good friends who have stated that they want to play together in college. Ogundeko is set to announce his decision on July 24th, and is choosing between Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Florida.

Edwards' decision comes as little surprise. The New York Post's Zach Braziller broke the story last night, and many have speculated that Edwards has been a Syracuse lean for some time.

Edwards becomes the eighth commitment for Syracuse in the class of 2013.
