Let's keep the Get To Know Your Orange Man series going...
Name: Prince-Tyson Gulley
Position: Running Back
Year: Junior
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 181
Hometown: Akron, OH
High School: Garfield Senior HS
2011 Stats: PTG had one of the more up-and-down seasons in memory. Before it even began he was involved in fight and stabbed multiple times, leading to speculation he'd miss the entire season. He recovered and eased his way into the first four games of the year, garnering 89 yards on 18 carries and 26 yards on three receptions. Then, his season ended for real with a broken collarbone. Clearly, PTG was not supposed to play football last year.
2012 Projections: PTG could be a real wild card for the Orange in 2012. He's fully-healed, we assume. Currently, he's No. 2 on the depth chart behind Jerome Smith but most still consider that an open race and expect both to garner carries early on before one emerges. Expect Gulley to become an important part of the offense this year, assuming he stays on the field.
How'd He Get Here: It was basically between us and the entire MAC for Gulley's services. He chose the Orange over offers from Kansas, Marshall, Toledo, Ohio University, Akron (obviously), Ball State, Central Michigan, Kent State, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio) and Eastern Michigan.
Scouts/Rivals Said: Both gave him two stars but ESPN rated him a three-star RB.
Money Quote: "I’m out of the hospital. Yeah, I’ll be back. I’m good. Just taking it slow now." - PTG's first comments after the stabbing incident.
Links O' Wonder: PTG's on Twitter. You should be following him.
Doug Marrone Thinks: "You know, I told Prince the other day that he could be the first player to touch the ball for us this season," Marrone said. "And you know his response? ‘Good, coach. I hope I am, because then we’ll be ahead 7-0.’ You have to love a kid like that. That is the attitude of the young players." - Doug before the 2010 season.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: When he first came to us, he was just Tyson Gulley. Thankfully, he made the switch and we're all the better for it.
Lets Get A Good Look Atchya: Here's PTG an #SHAMARKO gettin' that grind on...
