Another week, another start of the Get To Know Your Orange Man series. This week kicks off with a Nassib, but not the Nassib you were thinking of...
Name: Joe "The Other" Nassib
Position: Cornerback
Year: Junior
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 170
Hometown: Newton Square, PA
High School: The Haverford School
2011 Stats: Joe played in the exact same amount of games as cousin Ryan except that he mostly played on special teams. He did not accumulate any stats, as such.
2012 Projections: More of the same. Joe is technically No. 2 on the depth chart at one of the corner spots, but that's with Keon Lyn injured and none of the incoming freshmen involved yet.
How'd He Get Here: Joe was a pretty decent WR/CB in high school but didn't have too many schools knocking down his door. Methinks that cousin Ryan put in a good word for him with the SU brass and here he is.
Plus, his recruitment led the creation of his photo:
Scouts/Rivals Said: Not a word.
Money Quote: "Creating a Twitter account for an IST 195 Lab at Syracuse University for the iSchool." Joe tweeted that and seven more time on September 12, 2010 and never tweeted again. Like a candle in the wind...
Links O' Wonder: Here's a story on how walk-ons like Nassib were expected to make a serious impact in 2011.
Doug Marrone Thinks: Nassib The Younger is the Rudy of Syracuse football:
"I think there are guys on board now who have that potential. (Defensive back) Joe Nassib. We got short a corner in the spring game and Joe Nassib went both ways and busted his butt. I appreciate what they do probably more than the scholarship athlete."
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Joe went to France to play in the Global Football Bowl back in 2010. The team did well. They beat Belgium 83-0.
Lets Get A Good Look Atchya: Here's a photo essay from that ill-fated Brussels game...
