Syracuse Football: Get to Know Your Orange Man - #6 Ritchy Desir

Another profile of a proud iPad owner.

Name: Ritchy Desir

Position: CB

Year: Sophomore

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 168

Hometown: North Miami Beach, FL.

High School: North Miami Beach

2011 Stats: Desir was one of ten true freshmen to see the field in 2011. He played in all eleven games, and registered 8 total tackles.

2012 Projections: Despite being listed as a CB, Ritchy is penciled in as the second string strong safety behind Shamarko Thomas. It's hard to know what to make of that. On the one hand, with fellow Floridians Keon Lyn and Ri'Shard Anderson holding down the corners, it would be hard for Desir to see the field without an injury to either one. At the same time, taking him from behind two veteran players and sticking him behind #SHAMARKO isn't likely to up his field time either. In any case, if the coaches think he has the versatility to play either spot, that's a good thing.

How'd He Get Here: Ritchy played QB, WR and DB under coach Jeff Bertani for the North Miami Beach Chargers. He recorded five interceptions as a senior on his way to earning All-County honors. He chose Syracuse over FIU, West Virginia, Western Michigan, Texas Tech and Kansas.

What Did Scout/Rivals Say?: The 2-3 combo typical of Syracuse recruits.

Money Quote: Ritchy appears to be a do-er rather than a talker. Good for him.

Links of Wonder: Nothing interesting, but it gets the job done.

What Does Marrone Think?: How about DC Scott Schafer instead?

Ritchy was the most productive defensive back in our first big scrimmage. He had an interception, he had a pass breakup, he had a sack. He’s a really good football player. He’s excited, and he’ll do anything you ask.

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Um, he's from Florida, so he's probably really fast.

Let's Get a Good Look Atchya:b An oldie, but a goodie.
