Syracuse Football: Get To Know Your Orange Man - #6 Terrel Hunt

via

This afternoon's "Get to Know Your Orange Man" profiles the owner of a shiny new iPad...

Name: Terrel Hunt

Position: Quarterback

Year: Redshirt Freshman

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 203

Hometown: Rosedale, NY

High School: Christ the King

2011 Stats: None

2012 Projections: The Ryan Nassib Show has one more season before it goes off the air, so Terrel will have to wait his turn to be inserted in the prime time fall line up. Word on the street is that the staff is really high on Terrel, and many have speculated that he might be the heir apparent to the quarterback position, but missing the entire spring due to suspension for cologne thievery is definitely a set back. The battle for the backup quarterback spot should be fairly intriguing this summer.

How'd He Get Here?: Terrel had the attention of all of the usual suspects in the northeast (BC, Rutgers, UConn, Temple), but Syracuse was the only school with his mother's blessing. His mother Katrina tragically passed away in early 2010, but Terrel made sure to honor her wishes by making a commitment to SU.

Scout/Rivals Said: Both gave Terrel three stars.

Money Quote: From a Nolan Weidner piece about two possible Orange quarterbacks of the future

"I’m coming to play quarterback," said Hunt, who will help lead the Downstate team. "I’m not going back out and move because someone else is coming. That’s not me. I’m trying to come in and see if I can win a starting position."

Links of Wonder: Daily News writer Mark Lelinwalla discusses the many hardships that Hunt has faced as he prepared to sign with SU.

Marrone Thinks: From the same Nolan piece above:

"It’s an interesting matchup," he said. "I don’t usually get excited about games outside of our own, but I’m excited about this all-star game. They (Broyld and Hunt) believe in their ability, but I also think they understand that they have to develop."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Hunt was a three-time captain at Christ the King. Obviously he had a major lapse in judgment with his arrest this past spring, and he has paid the price for it, but this is a player who has always been a model citizen and excellent leader to this point. I doubt that we see Hunt get into too much more trouble while at Syracuse.
