Syracuse Football: Get To Know Your Orange Man - #16 Keenan Hale

via

Name: Keenan Hale

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 185

Hometown: Conyers, GA

High School: The McCallie School

2011 Stats: N/A

2012 Projections: After sitting on the sidelines in 2011, Hale is set to back up sophomore Jeremiah Kobena at wide out. (Of course, depth charts at Syracuse aren't really worth much, ever.) At six foot two with speed, Hale stared in track during his high school days, the sophomore should get his chances in both practice and actual games this season.

And, as ESPN Big East blogger Andrea Adelson points out, Hale is in a group of young receivers that could have a big impact for Doug Marrone this season. That's especially true if Marcus Sales is rusty after his *cough* year off *cough* and if injuries continue to plague Van Chew and Alec Lemon.

How'd He Get Here?: Arkansas and Vanderbilt showed interest, and there are reports schools like Tennessee and even LSU had Hale on their radar. In the end, (or is it at the end of the day?) Hale picked SU shortly after an official visit. Hale said Syracuse was, 'a good fit' for him football wise, and he also liked that the school offered a pharmacy program.

Hale failed to discuss if Marrone having a gun shoved in his back while he announced his decision had anything to do with his choice.

Scout/Rivals Said: Two stars all around. Is it me, or was everyone on the team either a no-star or a two-star recruit?

Money Quote: Remember, back when Syracuse was more relevant, the football program would lose out on southern kids because they didn't even want to think about snow? Well, somehow the thought of spending 8 months out of the year shivering was a draw to the kid from Georgia:

'The week I went was the first weekend they’d had snow, and they got six inches. It isn’t like the same weather here. I really enjoyed it. I slipped a few times on the ice, and I know I’ll need to make sure I have some boots when I go back.'

Links of Wonder: Hale has a Facebook group page you can 'like' if you so chose. Now, there are only 18 people who have actually clicked 'like' on the page at the moment, but if Hale can produce on the field, I'm betting more people jump on the bandwagon.

Doug Marrone Thinks: Last fall Marrone said, 'I like 'em,' when asked about a group of incoming freshmen wide receivers. A group that included Hale.

For some reason I picture Marrone saying that like Sling Blade.

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Hale was born in California, moved to Georgia, then ended up at prep school in Tennessee. Of course, that's all before he decided on college in central New York. Hale's seen more of America than most of us! (Ok, more than me. I'm a sheltered, sad, person.)

Also, Hale was a track star in high school, good enough to be named All-State.

Let Us Get a Good Look Atchya: Here's a pep rally before a big game for Hale during his time at McCallie School:
