"Get to Know..." rides on. Today, we take a look at long snapper Sam Rodgers.
Position: Long snapper
Year: Sophomore
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 215 pounds
Hometown: State College, PA
High School: Mercersburg Academy
2011 Stats: Played in all 12 games.
2012 Projections: Rodgers was recruited and given a scholarship to be a long snapper, and long snapping is exactly what he did in every game for SU last season. It should be assumed that Rodgers will do the same this season.
How'd He Get Here?: Specialization, son. Big football factories like Ohio State and Rodgers' hometown Penn State rarely offer scholarships for specialists like Rodgers. Syracuse was willing to give him a full ride for his skills, and here he is.
Scout/Rivals Said: Rivals gave Sam two stars. Scout doesn't like long snappers apparently.
Money Quote:
"It's a pretty special feeling because I know not too many long snappers earn scholarships out of high school," Rodgers said. "This is pretty special."
Links of Wonder: A little blog about some dude who probably performs birthdays and bar mitzvahs and stuff had a nice post about Rodgers. Self-promotion!
Doug Marrone Thinks: ...that Rodgers is pretty damn good. He did give a long snapper a full ride out of high school, after all.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Rodgers is a pretty smart kid. He had a 3.8 GPA in high school and is majoring in Nutrition at SU.
Let Us Get a Good Look Atchya: Watch the master do his work.
