Jim Boeheim makes $1.9 million dollars a year. His base pay is $1,577,523 and he makes $130,000 every time Syracuse qualifies for the NCAA Tournament. He also gets $77,000 in insurance/vehicle allowance and $40,000 in deferred compensation.

At that price, he's an absolute steal.

Sure, that sounds like a lot of money, but let's compare how much some other big-time coaches make in take-home pay from their school:

  • John Calipari: $5.3M
  • Rick Pitino: $4.8M
  • Coach K: $4.6M
  • Tom Izzo: $3.6M
  • Thad Matta: $2.9M
  • Buzz Williams: $2.8M
  • Jim Calhoun: 2.7M

And now let's look at the other coaches on Jim Boeheim's pay level:

  • Bob Huggins: 2.0M
  • Kevin Stallings: $1.9M (I had to check who this even was. He coaches Vandy)
  • John Thompson III: $1.8M
  • Anthony Grant: $1.8M (Again, had to check. He coaches Alabama. ALABAMA!)
  • Tony Bennett: $1.7M (Virginia, FYI).

So, like I said, Boeheim is and will continue to be an absolute steal so long as he coaches at Syracuse. Don't worry about him either, he's making plenty off landscaping company endorsements and wiener investments.

When Mike Hopkins takes over at Syracuse's next coach, one would imagine his salary will be not that far off from where Boeheim's is now. There are many ways the University is lucky to have a guy like Boeheim in charge and this is just one more of them.

And this is also your friendly reminder that Greg Robinson was paid almost as much as Boeheim when he was here and even made more than Jim the year after he was fired thanks to a buyout clause. NEVER FORGET.
