Yep, it's that time again. Last year we counted down every SU football player from Chandler Jones (#99) to Phil Thomas (#1), as you can see here. Well both of those guys (and a few more in between) are gone and it's time to profile the entire 2012 Syracuse Orange football roster starting with the highest number and working out way down (more or less). Let's get to it...
Position: Guard
Year: Redshirt Freshman
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 318 pounds
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
High School: Fort Hamilton
2011 Stats: N/A
2012 Projections: Foy took advantage of the injury bug that bit so many of our offensive linemen this spring, and finds himself starting at right guard on the post-spring depth chart. Now the question is, can he hold on to that spot when all of those guys return? Odds are it will be either Foy or Lou Alexander by week one.
How'd He Get Here?: Foy was one of the many diamonds in the rough that SU was able to land fairly late in the recruiting cycle in 2011. The only other team heavily involved was Rutgers, but SU had a leg up due to the commitment of Brandon Reddish, Foy's high school teammate.
Scout/Rivals Said: Scout gave Foy three stars, while Rivals gave him two.
Money Quote: From an interview with Orange Fizz last February:
"I knew as soon as they (Syracuse) started putting in all the time and effort. They treated me like family. They treated me like royalty. And I couldn’t ask for more."
Links of Wonder: Here's a good write-up on Foy's commitment to SU from the New York Post.
Doug Marrone Thinks: No direct quotes from Doug on Ivan. However, it should be noted that Foy is one of the many players who receives an offer after camping at Syracuse. SU has done a great job at identifying talent that may slip past other schools' radars from these camps, especially with the NYC kids.
"They saw me at their camp and they liked me a lot so they kept in touch," said Foy. "They kept real close, right on top of me sort of like another parent. Syracuse was putting a little more time and effort into me and out of respect I had to go with them."
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Foy is on scholarship for football, but apparently his best sport in high school was baseball. I could definitely see Ivan going yard a few times.
Let Us Get a Good Look Atchya: For Optimum Subscribers, here is an interview with Ivan from MSG Varsity.
For everyone else...highlights, y'all.
