Darryl Watkins, you guys! Remember him?!?!

The former Syracuse Orange has bounced around professional leagues and nations ever since he left SU in 2007.

Watkins was signed as a rookie by the Sacramento Kings in 2007, later went to the D-League and played for the Iowa Energy and LA D-Fenders, worked out for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2008, played briefly for the San Antonio Spurs, took his talents to Tianjin Ronggang of the CBA (China Basketball Association), tried out a few more times for NBA squads, spent a season in Lebanon and played most recently in Cyprus.

All of that back and forth may pay off now that the New Orleans Hornets have signed Watkins to a 10-day contract.

So what do the Hornets see in Watkins? Is it his offensive ability? Is it his presence in the paint? Is it the fact that he's able to breathe and stand up for prolonged periods of time?

``We just needed bodies,'' Hornets Coach Monty Williams said. ``We have so many guys who are a bit banged up.''

Watkins averaged 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per game for the Kings way back in 2007-08. Good luck, Darryl!
