I was a little concerned the past few weeks that New York City-based Syracuse Orange fans went into hiding immediately after basketball season was over. There hasn't been too many events, and it's been fairly quiet outside of all this Nerlens Noel talk (which is yet again, basketball related). Fortunately, we've got some lacrosse left (men's & women's) and a few alumni events coming up.
The SU men's lacrosse team is 5-5 so far this season, and after this weekend they've got games left in Geneva (Hobart), the Dome (Georgetown) and South Bend (Notre Dame). None of which are entirely close to NYC, but the Big East Tournament will be at Villanova on May 3 & 5, and tickets are still available. And let's not count out the women, who are the #2 team in the country at the moment, and have 6 games left. Might be time to start appreciating the ladies.
If you're in town, there's a big "4SqDay" (Foursquare Day) party on Monday, April 16th (get it? 4 squared is 16 -- 4/16). Foursquare as you may or may not know, was founded by SU grad, Dennis Crowley ('98), and is an app that allows you to check into the places you go. Mayor Bloomberg has declared 4/16 as an official day recognized by the city of New York. The party is at The Caufield on 27th St between Park & Lex at 7pm. Stop by, it's sure to be a big SU Alumni hangout.
Last but not least, the Syracuse University Day at Yankee Stadium is slated for June 30th when the Yankees tank on the Chicago White Sox. The Lubin House will have all your details "in the coming weeks," even though this has been up for a few weeks already. Keep checking back for ticket details.
