Alas, the 2012 Big East Tournament is not going to be a march through Syracuse's most bitter rivals. After beating UConn, many were predicting that the Georgetown Hoyas would be SU's Friday opponent. Instead, it's the upstart Cincinnati Bearcats who will re-match with the Syracuse Orange after they defeated the Hoyas 72-70 in double overtime.
Junior guard Cashmere Wright banked in the game-winning shot, which was let go just inside the free-throw-line, with about nine seconds remaining in the second session. Georgetown's final possession ended with senior center Henry Sims missing a desperation 3-pointer that hit the back iron.
Syracuse defeated Cincy 60-53 on the road in hard-fought game that followed the Orange's only loss of the season back in January. Fab Melo didn't play, Kris Joseph led the way with 18 points and Scoop Jardine added 13 points and six assists.
Since then the Bearcats have put together a solid season and entered the Big East Tournament 22-9 (12-6). With wins in eight of their last ten games, including ones over Marquette and Georgetown, Mick Cronin's boys are no slouches.
Syracuse and Cincy will tip at 7:00 p.m. EST at Madison Square Garden and the game will be live on ESPN.
