The Syracuse Orange women's basketball team's season ended Monday with a loss to Villanova. As such, the Orange ended up 17-13 (6-10) and will be the 12-seed when the Big East Tournament begins on Friday.
Quentin Hillsman's squad finished the regular season in a three-way tie for 10th in the conference standings with Cincinnati and Villanova. The Wildcats were awarded the No. 10 seed by virtue of being 2-0 against the other tied teams, while the Bearcats were 1-1 and the Orange 0-2.
The other first round games on Friday will feature No. 9 USF vs. No. 16 Pittsburgh (2 p.m.), No. 10 Villanova vs. No. 15 Seton Hall (6 p.m.) and No. 11 Cincinnati vs. No. 14 Marquette (8 p.m.).
Short of winning the Big East Tournament, the NCAA Tournament is out of the question. However, the Orange are still in line to play in the post-season for the fourth-consecutive year.
If they beat Providence, the Orange will move on to face 5-seed West Virginia. Win there and it's on to 4-seed Georgetown and so on and so forth. Syracuse beat Providence 80-54 earlier this year.
The game will take place Friday at noon at the XL Center in Hartford, CT.
