Syracuse Football: OL Jonathan Burton Commits To SU

This one happened before the holiday but it's worth noting. The Syracuse Orange picked up their 15th commitment for the Class of 2013 as 6-foot-7, 305-pound tackle Jonathan Burton committed to play for SU.

This one happened before the holiday but it's worth noting. The Syracuse Orange picked up their 15th commitment for the Class of 2013 as 6-foot-7, 305-pound tackle Jonathan Burton committed to play for SU.

Burton comes to Cuse without much fanfare. Scout gives him no stars. The other offers he received? From Eastern Kentucky, Northern Michigan and Campbell. So what in the heck is FBS school Syracuse doing offering him a scholarship? Because Greg Adkins says so (and who are you to argue with Greg?):

During an early trip to scout football prospects at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia this past season, Syracuse University offensive line coach Greg Adkins noticed a big tackle who was raw but seemed to have the skills to develop into an FBS-level talent.

Power said both Adkins and Orange head coach Doug Marrone told him they felt Burton had the body movement and skills to develop into a high-level talent for the future. Power said Burton is a "high character kid" who worked hard to develop pass protection skills in Fork Union’s pro-style offense.

Burton said he appreciated the "strong family feeling" at SU, something we've heard a lot of recruits talk about.

Burton will have four years of eligibility at SU following a stint at prep school Fork Union Military Academy and it sounds like even if we don't hear much about him next year, we just might by the fourth.
