Safety Dontez Ford came to the Syracuse Orange with tons of on-field potential and off-field potential for teaching calculus without a shirt. Alas, we will not be the beneficiaries of either as Ford has put in his papers and decided to transfer from SU.
The Syracuse football team will have at least one more scholarship available to use this recruiting season, as true freshman safety Dontez Ford has decided to transfer. Ford had tweeted about his intentions and teammates had tweeted they were sad to see him go, and earlier tonight Sue Edson, assistant director of athletics for communications, confirmed the player’s intention to leave.
As for that Twitterfeed, you can check it out and go back to December 14th for the whole mini-saga.
Looking back at our Get To Know Your Orange profile, we're reminded that Ford was recruited by Dan Conley, who's long gone. Then again, who knows what the reason is for his displeasure.
Whatever the reasons that he's gone, no use speculating. He's not a bad guy for transferring from SU anymore than Quinta Funderburk is a good guy for transferring to SU. If he wants to play elsewhere, God bless'm. Fare thee well, Dontez.
The questions now, how does this affect our strong safety depth next season? #SHAMARKO is graduating, we already lost Shu Mungwa and Devante McFarlane is now a tailback. Recent JUCO commitment Darius Kelly wasn't kidding when he said coaches promised him a chance to compete for the starting spot.
