There are a lot of Syracuse Orange athletics programs succeeding right now. But the men's soccer team has something that very few of them have yet to master. A penchant for the dramatic.
Last night, the at-large Orange shocked No. 19 VCU in double-overtime, winning 3-2 and setting up a third round showdown with the Georgetown Hoyas.
Louis Clark, who's nickname better be The Explorer, scored in the 108th minute to seal the victory and give SU it's second NCAA win of all-time and second of this tournament.
"Tonight was a fantastic college match," SU head coach Ian McIntyre. "I am extremely proud of our team, which showed tremendous character and resolve. We would also like to congratulate VCU on a great season."
Clark also scored the first goal of the evening while Stefanos Stamoulactos added the equalizer in the 30th minute.
Credit also goes to goalkeeper Alex Bono, who turned away quite a few quality kicks from VCU, including one shot that almost ended the game just before the first overtime. Bono finished the match with a career-high eight saves.
The Orange now head to D.C. to take on the No. 3 seed Georgetown Hoyas. The game will take place Sunday, November 25th at 1:00 p.m. Check out the full bracket here.
