Syracuse Recruiting: Markus Pierce-Brewster Commits

All your California JUCO defensive linemen are belong to Syracuse University.

Markus Pierce-Brewster becomes the third big hoss from a Cali JUCO to come play for the Syracuse Orange in 2012 as he verbally-committed today.

Markus Pierce-Brewster of San Francisco City College, a 2011 Community College All-American and the defensive player of the year, made a verbal commitment to attend SU this afternoon.

Pierce-Brewster, a former wide receiver and defensive back in high school, is a 6-foot-3, 231-pound speed rusher whose size won't be any drawback at the FBS level, according to coach George Rush.

He may end up at linebacker instead of DE, but either way it's another big get for the Orange.

Pierce-Brewster garnered 62 tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss, and eight sacks this season, en route to being named Northern California Conference defensive player of the year. He had offers from Oregon State, Mississippi, Kansas and Indiana but chose the Orange instead.

Rivals, Scout and ESPN all rated him as a three-star player.

Markus joins DT Zian Jones and DE Mark Garrick as JUCO transfers and also joins fellow DE Myles Hilliard and Poncho Barnwell in this class. The position was a need for SU this year and they seem to have met it.
