Keeping with Syracuse's recent tradition of doing things Jim Boeheim hates, Midnight Madness will take place in the Carrier Dome on Friday, October 14 at 8pm (obviously).
Last year, Naughty By Nature entertained the masses by playing those three songs your mom loves to dance to at Bar Mitzvahs. In keeping with the theme of inviting early-90's rappers that your mom knows to host the event, rapper and "actor" Tone Loc is the main attraction this year.
The featured entertainment for Midnight Madness includes rapper and actor Tone Loc, who will perform his smash hits "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina," accompanied by the SU Dance Team. Russian Bar Trio, an acrobatic act as seen on the popular television show America’s Got Talent, is also scheduled to perform its death-defying feats at midcourt. Deena from Jersey Show will be signing autographs and mingling with the crowd.
Okay, let's break this down...
- What are the chances Tone Loc sings anything other than those two songs? Does he even have other songs?
- "Deena from Jersey Show" - NOW...either that's just how you spell Jersey Shore when using the Staten Island accent or perhaps SU Athletics couldn't get the rights to say "Jersey Shore" so they're just going to refer to her as "Deena from that Jersey show."
- Apparently the Syracuse Basketball teams will show up too. Cause, you know, it would be weird if they didn't.
The biggest remaining questions are, "What will our theme be this season?" and "Who's going to write our theme song?" The full impact of losing Rob Murphy will be felt on that night.
Free tickets will be available starting Wednesday, October 5, at the Carrier Dome Box Office, Schine Student Center (students only) or a whole bunch of AmeriCU branches on that Thursday.
