The Syracuse Orange basketball Class of 2012 officially has a member.
A few weeks removed from the news that Jerami Grant would decide between Maryland and Rutgers, the consensus Top 50 player has chosen Orange.
"I made the decision based on Syracuse's style of play,'' Grant said. "I'm a forward and Syracuse does wonderful things with their forwards. Guys like Carmelo, Wes Johnson and Donte Greene.''
One of those guys was a super-duper star, one was a well-rounded, team-first athlete and one was a score-score-score scorer who left way-too-early and is just now learning about the art of defense. Let us all hope Jerami emulates the right ones...
Here's Jerami's AAU coach on the decision.
"He fits what they do," Grant's AAU coach, Keith Stevens, told SportsNet New York. "I think his style of play fits the way they play. There are a lot of similarities in how he played this summer with us and what coach Boeheim likes to do with his three-man, being able to get the ball off the backboard and being able to start the fast break."
Notre Dame was also in the mix for Grant, who attends DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Md. (The House That Ryan Bartholomew Built). Grant also plays for Team Takeover, an AAU Team that new assistant coach Adrian Autry used to work with. Red's paying dividends already...
FYI, Jerami is former NBA player Harvey Grant's son and the nephew of Bulls great Horace Grant. Jerami's brother Jerai just graduated from Clemson while his other bother Jerian is a sophomore at Notre Dame. Look forward to seeing Harvey in a half-Cuse, half-Irish shirt for that one.
And if someone wants to find out why all of Harvey's kids have a first name that begins with the letter J, that will help solve the first mystery of Jerami's tenure.
Let's get to know Jerami, shall we?
He's in here somewhere...
