Orange::44: Bueller? Bueller?
People are showing up to the Carrier Dome. For the Thursday night season opener on September 1 against Wake Forest, the announced attendance was 40,833. Against FCS foe Rhode Island this past weekend, that announced number fell to 36,421. So, for you tens of thousands of people who attended either (or both) of those games, this post isn't directed at you. For the rest of you, well, it kind of is. You know who else has shown they can be beaten? USC. The Trojans have put together terrible performances in their two victories, squeaking out a win at home against Minnesota (which just lost to bottom feeder New Mexico State) and Utah. The Trojans are supposed to be a high-powered offense, but are averaging 15.5 points a game and 109.5 yards on the ground. Syracuse has had its share of problems on defense and in the run game, but the Trojans are not unbeatable by any stretch.

The Orange defeated Rhode Island 21-14. Ryan Nassib threw for 300+ yards, Syracuse couldn't run the ball against an FCS team and this game was way too close for comfort. Luckily for the Cuse, Rhode Island missed a field goal and didn't hand the ball off enough to running back Travis Hurd who gashed the defense for 7.1 yards per carry and a touchdown on his 8 attempts.

For all those connections, the two teams have only went against each other once in the last 85 years -- an August 1990 matchup at Giants Stadium that the Trojans won, 34-16. The previous meeting before that was in 1924, the first full season USC played at the Coliseum. USC won, 16-0, in front of a crowd of 45,000.

Tyler Cavanaugh, fresh from his eye-opening basketball summer, weighs college options that include Syracuse University | syracuse.com
What’s up these days, for Cavanaugh, is a widening array of potential college destinations. Once a target for mid-major Division I schools, Cavanaugh’s performance over a summer of camps and tournaments prompted two programs from renowned basketball conferences to offer scholarships. Syracuse University, which had extended an offer to Coleman years ago, has made the same pitch to Cavanaugh. Wake Forest also offered a scholarship.
