Syracuse football preseason camp got underway on Thursday as the Orange commence their campaign to build on the successful 2010 season.

It's also a chance for the coaches and captains to say extremely generic things about how they are not ready yet to begin playing football against other teams and how they must do a lot of work before that time is upon them.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us," Coach Marrone said. "You can’t say today ‘Syracuse University is back and they’re a consistent team right now.’ We’ve done it once. One of the messages that I’ll be talking to the team about is that we have to prove ourselves. We can’t rest on the world with what we did last year. So I think we’re not where we want to be yet."

"A lot of people say that they are ready for camp, but there's still a phase of development that you have to go through," Jones said. "These days are going to be key. Every day you're going to learn the about the person next to you, and you should know where they are going to be on the field at every point in time."

Leave it to 2011's breakout star Mikhail Marinovich to lay the facts out on the table.

"We just can’t wait to get together and see what kind of team we have here. Anything less than a BCS bowl would be underachieving for this team. I think we should shoot high. I think anything is possible with this team."

And then there's Chandler Jones bringing the "I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'" funk:

"I’m not saying I’m going to get 30 sacks," Jones said. "I’m just saying that’s my goal. If you don’t believe in yourself, then who will?"

Chandler also drops this nugget about Mikhail and his award-winning stache:

"Mikhail’s a very unique person. He’s the most interesting person on the team," Jones said. "It looks nice. It fits him very well. It will be exciting to see just how far it grows."

If someone doesn't mock up a Most Interesting Man In Syracuse image of Marinovich by noon, I'm going to be very disappointed...
