It's 9 am, and that means I should be somewhere between Albany and Syracuse, fleeing for my life as Irene comes to wash away the non-believers. Only those who pledge allegiance to the Ottoman Empire shall be spared. Oh, and i'm heading back to school to start my senior year. Exciting stuff, indeed.
Anyways, let's get on with the profiling. Ritchy Desir is up today. If you need to catch up with any other Orangemen, click here.
Position: Cornerback
Year: Freshman
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 168
Hometown: North Miami Beach, FL
High School: North Miami Beach
2010 Stats: None collegiately, of course, but he did have 5 picks as a high school senior last fall.
2011 Projections: It sounds like either Desir or his fellow freshman corner Brandon Reddish will get some playing time this year. Dave Rahme thinks that it's going to be Reddish at this point, but doesn't rule out the possibility of Desir playing a bit as a true freshman.
How'd He Get Here?: Ritchy chose SU over an impressive offer list which included FIU, West Virginia, Western Michigan, Texas Tech and Kansas. Scott Shafer was his recruiter.
What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Take a guess...
Did you say 2 stars from Scout and 3 stars from Rivals?
You did?
You've been keeping up with your reading! Good on you, unnamed TNIAAM reader.
Scout and Rivals were very far apart on Ritchy's position ranking. Scout lists him as the #155 corner, while Rivals has him at #31, and the #61 player in Florida.
Money Quote: When asked his top 5 Syracuse athletes:
"Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, #SHAMARKO Thomas, Phillip Thomas, Marquis Spruill".
Freshman trying to earn brownie points...I like it.
Links of Wonder: The Miami Herald's spotlight on Ritchy back in January of 2010.
Doug Marrone Thinks: It sounds like Marrone would like to be able to keep Desir in his back pocket and redshirt him, but seems comfortable enough playing him if need be this year. It will be interesting to see how Desir develops this season, but all the reports on his camp this summer have been very positive.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Ritchy did it all for North Miami Beach High School. He was a four year starter, and split time between quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback and kick returner. He's a very versatile kid.
