You scoffed when Ross Krautman was rated higher than Antwon Bailey and Ryan Nassib in NCAA '12. Well scoff no more, jerk, Krautman is on the Lou Groza Award watch list.
The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award is named for NFL Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. There's a few more names on this one, thirty to be exact. It's headlined by Michigan State junior Dan Conroy, Duke senior Will Synderwine and Syracuse sophomore Ross Krautman. 20 semi-finalists will be announced on October 28.
You know the rule. Syracuse must have one fantastic kicker/punter at all times. Rob Long is out, Das Boot is in.
Kraut was named a Sporting News and Rivals.com Freshman All-American and was named to the All-Big East Second Team. His 18 total field goals last season tied the SU single-season record and his 16 consecutive field goals made streak matches the Syracuse record.
