The 2011-2012 Syracuse Orange basketball season will officially kick off Saturday, November 12, in the Carrier Dome when SU hosts the Fordham Rams.
Fordham isn't exactly coming in here guns blazing. The Rams are coming off a 7-21 season which saw them finish dead last in the Atlantic 10 (RP-aye-aye-aye!). Their head coach, Tom Pecora, is entering into his second season with the Rams. He coached Hofstra between 2001 to 2010, going 155–126 and having four 20-win seasons.
To be fair, 7-21 is an improvement. They went 2-26 in the previous year.
This will be the third-ever meeting between the two schools with the previous two games won by the Cuse. Coincidentally, we opened the 1982 season against Fordham, beating them 66-44 thanks to 18 points from Tony "Red" Bruin. In 2007, Donte Greene lit up the Rams for 25 points en route to an 80-63 victory.
