So, I Dreamed About Doug Marrone Saturday Night

So I dreamed about Doug Marrone Saturday night...

I don't remember what came before it but, at some point, I was looking at a montage of Doug Marrone moments. It was a mixture of shots of him on the sidelines or walking out of the tunnel. Nothing special about that, I suppose. But here's the thing...in every instance it was windy.

No, I take that back. Not windy, GUSTING. Like, Tornado-wind.

At one point I see Doug barely being able to stand still during a game.Given those tree trunks, that's a substantial storm.

In another, he's surrounded by policemen (?) wearing that yellow parka they wear during storms. Their job seems to be to make sure Doug Marrone remains in place so that he could make his next brilliance decision.

In another one Doug is coaching right up against the crowd. He seems to be falling back into them with each massive gust. He pushes through and keeps on coaching.

And so it kept going. Another game, another windstorm, again and again.

And then, all of a sudden, a Mercedes Benz appeared. Turns out, my dream was a Mercedes Benz commercial. We were in the part of the commercial where it's time to drive home the final message. The message that binds Doug Marrone's magnificent ability to withstand Mother Nature in order to win Syracuse football games and Mercedes Benz automobiles.

I don't remember the specifics but I imagine the tagline was something like, "Elements Be Damned."

Or maybe that's too edgy for Mercedes Benz. It was probably something more like "Tough. Classy. Original." Nah, that sounds like some crap Dodge Ram would come up with. This is Mercedes Benz, people!

"Excellence. No Matter What." Yes! Let's go with that!

So anyway, all of a sudden I was no longer watching a commercial. Now I'm there. I'm in some kind of close quarters. Like a tunnel. Yes, it's a tunnel. It's a tunnel under a stadium and I'm surrounded by people. Lots of people. Moving very quickly. And I'm standing right next to Doug Marrone. And not this kind of Doug Marrone, this kind of Doug Marrone. Intimidating.

Still, I can't help myself. I just watched his commercial (like, JUST watched it) and now I'm standing next to him. Well, walking briskly with him. We've got a game to get to and not a lot of time to get there. So I asked..."What do you think of your Mercedes Benz commercial, Coach?"

He ignores me. Full scowl, he moved past me and keeps walking. I stop and watch him go.

After that, I don't remember what happens.

So what do we make of all this? Are luxury endorsements in Coach Marrone's future? Will every Syracuse football game in 2011 be played during a hurricane (including inside the Carrier Dome)? Am I in love with Doug?

I consulted a dream dictionary to see what we could figure out about the core components:

Mercedes Benz - "To see Mercedes Benz in your dream, symbolizes status, wealth, luxury and prestige. The dream could also be a metaphor for someone who is named Mercedes."

Football - "To dream that you are watching football, indicates that you have great satisfaction in your work. You will achieve your goals as you progress through your life."

Famous person - "To see famous people in your dream, signifies an increase to your prosperity and honor."

TV commercial - "To dream that you are watching TV commercials, signify your tendency to jump from one thing to another without completing your initial responsibilities and tasks. You have a tendency to emotionally distance yourself and remain objective about the situations you are faced with."

Wind - "To dream of strong or gusty winds, represent turmoil and trouble in your life. You are experiencing much stress in some waking situation."

So, from what I can surmise, especially since I don't know anyone named Mercedes except for Mercedes Ruehl and I don't actually know her, I just know of her ... there is a lot of turmoil in my life, though there is also an increase in prosperity with an eye towards wealth and I have great satisfaction at work, though I do have a tendency to jump from task to task.

And that I think Doug Marrone is dreamy.

So that was my Saturday night...
