We've heard from a lot of different people this week on the topic of Big East expansion. Should we keep expanding? How many schools? Football-only programs? Schools in the Northeast only? More schools like TCU? Sexy schools? Ugly schools? Imaginary schools that only exist in John Marinatto's mind (Providence II: Providencer)?
But what of the Syracuse brass? DOC Gross, Jim Boeheim and Doug Marrone spent the week down at the Big East spring meetings. What did they come away with? A whole lot of nothing, apparently.
Jim Boeheim:
"I don’t think there’s going to be three football-basketball teams coming in. Could it happen? I guess it could. But whatever happens, we’ll make the adjustments and we’ll have a good league. That’s the bottom line," he said.
DOC Gross:
"What the conference is going to look like, and what television is going to look like for us as we go into the future, is high-priority for us, obviously," he said. "We’ve spent a lot of time and energy in those areas."
Doug Marrone:
"I don’t really think about it...And then it’s simple when people ask me about my opinion, which happens all the time. I really don’t have one...My total concentration is on getting this football team better. We have a long ways to go … a lot of things are going on. For me to worry about something that I don’t have a say in is just a waste of time."
Alright, glad that's settled.
