Syracuse Daily Links - Marrone Talks New Talent

Q&A with Syracuse's Doug Marrone, Part II - Big East Blog - ESPN
Well, we didn't redshirt many guys. But I think Deon Goggins, on the inside for our defense, is one. We've moved Marquis Spruill to middle linebacker. He played well for us last year as a true freshman [at outside linebacker], but there's still going to be a learning curve for the kid. At corner, Ri'shard Anderson was going to play for us, probably be our corner when went to nickel, until he got hurt last year and he's healthy now. Keondrick Lyn, I think, is a very, very good player there as well.

"You know I like the bright lights," said Waiters with a wide smile. "But no, for real, just to play in the Garden in the Big East Tournament is something big. It’s our time to see where we at, physically and mentally. Because we played against these teams already. It’s a chance to get revenge on teams that beat us earlier in the year."

Big East Basketball Has Become a Superconference - Searching for Billy Edelin
Big East clubs aren't worried about proverbially stroking their egos, they know the rigors they're up against come the turn of the new year, and their more concerned with just being healthy and ready come March. At the conclusion of the 2010-2011 regular season, the Big East possessed the No. 1 strength of schedule ranking, with all but one of the likely tournament teams boasting an SOS of less than 35, and four of those teams having an SOS of less than 15.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim well-acquainted with Big East Tournament's effect on NCAA-bound teams
"We took a straw poll and all 16 coaches voted for it," Boeheim said. "But a couple people in the league didn't want it. So now you could have a ninth-place team that is ranked in the Top 20 playing five games. It just kills you for the following week."

The Dag Bag – How far can SU go? | The Juice Online
If Syracuse gets past St. John’s, it will meet up with No. 1-seeded Pittsburgh Panthers. There are a couple of very good teams currently in the Big East that I feel Syracuse has owned in recent history… Notre Dame and Georgetown come to mind.
