Sophomore linebacker Brice Hawkes is expected to be a starter for Syracuse in 2011. That is, if he can ever get back on the field. Hawkes was suspended for the Pinstripe Bowl in December and he will miss the first three practices of spring as well, suspended for violating team rules,

As is his policy, Marrone did not specify what the violation was. The coach pointed out that the action was not related to another suspension Hawkes received last December that kept him out of the Pinstripe Bowl.

"It’s a recent situation. He’ll be sitting out the first three practices and join the team when he comes back," Marrone said.

Hawkes spent practice running laps and doing exercises on the sidelines.

Update: Orange Fizz brings Brice's Twitter account into view, which could be the reason why.

Can we get Brice a chaperone or something?

A couple other players missed practice, including defensive end Chandler Jones (stomach bug) and left tackle Justin Pugh (family matter).
