Syracuse University will be celebrating on Thursday, March 24, as the University and SU alumni clubs around the country mark National Orange Day. This year is the 141st anniversary of SU’s founding on March 24, 1870.

In contrast to the football experience at the Carrier Dome, going to see a Syracuse Orange men’s basketball game is a pretty remarkable experience. The Dome isn’t flashy, but it offers a huge and enthusiastic crowd, a good selection of fairly priced food, and well… you can drink in an on-campus stadium. So that’s cool.

I wasn’t a big fan of the Big East having Villanova move up when it looked like it was a possibility that the Wildcats would be the only football addition without TCU included. However, what I now understand is that for the Big East football schools to get the Big East Catholic members to vote for any further all-sports expansion in the first place was predicated on Villanova moving up, so the addition of the Philly-area school has to be looked at in the scheme of the entire Big East expansion in conjunction with TCU as opposed to on its own.
