I know for most Syracuse fans, lacrosse cannot make up for the ills of basketball. But those of us who do look to the sport as a crutch to prop up Cuse Nation when "The Big 2" cannot come through really suggest you give it a try. It never hurts to be reminded just how friggin' good we are at this whole lax thing.

Thanks to their epic 5-4 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday, the Orange remain No. 1 in the USILA Coaches Poll. They received all 14 first-place votes and easily out-pace No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Maryland.

Over in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, the Orange also remain No. 1 and claim fifteen first-place votes. Last week one person voted for Virginia but apparently that nudnik saw the light this time.

Interesting that the week they're about to play Syracuse, Villanova rockets up the charts in both polls. The Wildcats jump seven spots to No. 11 in the Coaches Poll and jump eight spots to No. 7 in the Media Poll. All that for beating a 1-8 Manhattan squad. Thought I suppose the win over Princeton helps...

Big East teams in the polls include 1/1 Cuse, 3/3 Notre Dame and 11/7 Villanova.

Big East Standings

No. 1 Syracuse Orange (6-0, 1-0)

No. 3 Notre Dame Fightin' Irish (4-0, 0-0)

No. 11 Villanova Wildcats (7-1, 0-0)

Georgetown Hoyas (3-3, 2-1)

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-2, 0-0)

Providence Friars (1-4, 0-1)

St. John's Red Storm (1-5, 0-1)
