James Southerland scored 19 points, Brandon Triche had 12 and Syracuse rolled to an 84-48 victory over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, winning its seventh game of the season.
Kris Joseph added 11 points as the Orange put forth another dominating performance after beating Stanford in their closest game of the season, 69-63, on Friday to win the NIT Season Tip-Off.
They trailed 21-18 with eight minutes left in the first half, but Dion Waiters hit a three-pointer to spark a 7-0 run and Syracuse never fell behind again. After that, it the Orange cruised behind a bevy of dunks, blocks and threes.
The Orange outscored EMU 30-12 in the paint and its bench outscored them by a guady 36, 43-7.
Rob Murphy was honored to be back in the Dome and receive a warm reception. He also shared support for Coach Boeheim.
"It’s a difficult time for Syracuse, period," he said. "I look at Coach Boeheim as a mentor, a father figure when I was here. He did a lot for me to help me in my career, just giving me this opportunity. And what he did for me the past seven years, obviously, it’s tough."
"It’s exciting to be back," Rob Murphy said. "This is home. This is family for me."
Syracuse now gets ready for Friday’s game against No. 10 Florida The Big East/SEC Challenge game starts at 7 p.m.
