The Syracuse Orange basketball team did play games last week and they will play games this week. When they do, they will have moved up in both polls.
In the AP Poll, Syracuse moves up one spot to No. 4. North Carolina and UConn's losses help the Orange move up. However, the voters leapfrogged Duke over SU because...well, they're Duke. That's what happens.
In the Coaches Poll, Duke somehow doesn't jump the Orange they're all the way up at No. 3. SU even received one first-place vote. Any guesses?
Other Big East teams include Louisville (6/6), UConn (8/10), Marquette (16/16) and Pittsburgh (17/17).
Syracuse's opponent on Friday, Florida, is ranked No. 10 in the AP and No. 9 in the Coaches, so that'll be a showdown between Top Ten teams officially.
SB Nation's Power Rankings have the Orange sitting at No. 4 as well:
Despite a host of off-the-court distractions, the Orange managed to capture the NIT Season Tip-Off title by fending off tough efforts from Virginia Tech and Stanford inside Madison Square Garden. The bad news is that the distractions don't appear to be going anywhere and a top ten opponent in Florida is coming to the Carrier Dome on Friday.
The Orange are No. 5 in the Sagarin Ratings behind...Alabama? So be it.
