The fifth-ranked Syracuse Orange make the trek to New York City to tangle with the Virginia Tech Hokies in the semifinals of the 2011 NIT Season Tip-Off. The winner will advance to Friday's title tilt against either Stanford or Oklahoma State.
Virginia Tech has taken out East Tennessee State, Monmouth and FIU to open the season, all at home, with the last two coming during the initial stages of this event. The Hokies are hoping to make some noise in the ACC this season, although with North Carolina and Duke hogging much of the spotlight, it's going to be tough to get folks to stand up and take notice.
Syracuse owns a 3-2 edge in the all-time series with Virginia Tech (which seems weirdly low), and the Orange have won the last three meetings.
There will be plenty of meetings to come once the Orange join the ACC. But until then...
