Senior tight end Nick Provo, who is tied for the team lead with six touchdown receptions this season, has been named a John Mackey Award Semi-finalist. The award, which recognizes the nation's best collegiate tight end, will announce the finalists for the award on Nov. 21.

Syracuse University Athletics - SU Eliminated In OT By Maryland, 2-1
After tying the game with 7:20 remaining in regulation, the Syracuse field hockey was eliminated by Maryland in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in overtime, 2-1. Kelsey Millman scored the lone goal for the Orange, which ends its season with a 19-4 record.

The Syracuse men's and women's cross country teams finished first at the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Buffalo on Saturday. Both teams secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships next week and won their third straight regional titles.

At this point, the season is a failure. The Orange is eliminated from Big East title contention. Three straight losses have SU in last place in the Big East, a conference weaker than Conference USA this year. Based on the goals put forth verbally by the team itself, even if Syracuse makes a bowl game, it doesn't make this year successful.

In Syracuse's season opener against Long Beach State, the Orange executed its new, fast-paced style of defense to near perfection. Syracuse (1-0, 0-0 Big East) limited the 49ers (1-1, 0-0 Big West) looks from the outside and provided a strong presence down low to stifle Long Beach's scorers to notch a 81-42 blowout victory on Sunday in front of 972 fans inside the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse Orange Basketball - Offseason Hard Work Pays Dividends
Last season, for three key Orange contributors, we saw the glaring flaws in their game. Fab Melo lacked conditioning, confidence, and knowledge of the system. Dion Waiters struggled defensively and had a "me first" attitude. CJ Fair lacked an outside game. However, through two exhibition games and one regular season game, the work they've done in the offseason has clearly payed dividends.
