Sam Rodgers Destined To Long-Snap Syracuse Past Penn State One Day

Hey Penn State, how bout you go down to the local Long Snapper store and pick yourself up one.  NO WAIT...YOU CAN'T...CAUSE WE TOOK HIM!!!

Sam Rodgers says he can see the Penn State campus from his bedroom window, but the 18-year-old specialist from State College, Pa., looked past the home of the Nittany Lions on Tuesday and made a verbal commitment to play football at Syracuse University next year.

Rodgers is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound long snapper who last year attended Mercersburg Academy. On Tuesday, he told SU assistant and special teams coach Bob Casullo that he wanted to play for the Orange in 2011.

Rodgers received interest from hometown Penn State as well as UConn and Ohio State, who asked him to come aboard as a preferred walk-on.  Instead, he committed to SU after attending a camp here in June and last week's official visit.

Rodgers comes to us from Mercersburg Academy where assistant coach Karl Reisner says "He’s as good of a long snapper as we’ve had at Mercersburg in my long career."  Prokicker.com ranks him as the 22nd best Long Snapper in the 2011 Class.

Rodgers plans on studying nutrition at SU.  Here's your first lesson, Sam.  Don't eat this.  Ever.
