So thank you Pitt for showing us that toughness, that moxie. The coaching staff took notes. Boeheim looked like he partly enjoyed it because he can use it for motivation (see LeMoyne). Face it, Cuse fans, there are no other teams in the nation that play as tough as Pitt. None. The ones that are close to them will all be in this conference getting the Cuse prepared for a deep tournament run.

As I wrote my Pitt blog in my head I started to realize that I was censoring myself to the point where there was almost nothing to talk about. Nothing positive anyways. Everything I wanted to talk about broke at least one of my self-imposed rules. My blog would have looked like a Bush-Cheney memo on torture, with thick, black, permanent marker redactions covering 90% of the page.

The Panthers might reside in the middle of the league’s pack in both field-goal percentage (.450) and 3-point efficiency (.346). But in the second half against Syracuse, Pitt was a comparative offensive juggernaut.

Athletes being pulled over for drunken antics behind the wheel barely makes us flinch anymore (especially after the Donte Stallworth tragedy earlier this year). But Taj's brief fit of idiot-itus leaves even the most loyal Orange fan scratching its head.

To have the chance to sit courtside and watch two teams go at it with such intensity, playing on whatever remains in the body after even adrenaline has been wrung dry, when nothing monumental is at stake -- no one was getting a trophy at the final buzzer, no one was being ousted from the NCAA tournament -- is one of the reasons I love my job.
