I'm not sure if you guys are super-excited by Emanuel "Tiki" Mayben's descent or super-bummed out, either way this story was sent to me as a heads-up by more people than anything else ever. So...do with that what you will.
Mayben, guard for Bighamton U, was charged on Wednesday for possessing and selling cocaine on multiple occasions. Which is...not good for anyone, let alone a school's single-season assist leader who is coming a season where he led his team to its first-ever NCAA tournament.
So what does this have to do with Syracuse? Well, had things turned out different, he might have been arrested for selling cocaine in his South Campus apartment instead.
A standout recruit in high school, Mayben originally committed to Syracuse but failed to qualify academically. Rather than attend a prep school and then come to Syracuse, Mayben decided to go to Massachusetts where he sat out one year before playing the 2006-07 season. He then transferred to Hudson Valley Community College in the 2007-08 season and from there went on to Binghamton.
It's been a long, strange trip for Mr, Mayben and unfortunately that trip might only be getting started.
Via Pete Thamel, here's some video of the charging:
