Andy Rautins Can Do Only So Much

When we last left Andy and the Canadian basketball team, things were looking up in the FIBA Americas Championship.  They had just beaten Mexico and held them to a record-low in scoring.  The sky was the limit for Canada basketball.  Unfortunately, the limit was also the sky. (Think about that...deep.)

The Canucks came out firing against the U.S. Virgin Islands and beat them 87-67.  Andy follow up his 18-point performance against Mexico with 11 points here along with five assists. Technically that's a win over the USA, or at least one of our territories, the neighbors to the North were dominating the continent.

Then...things got ugly. The Canadians were stunned by a late three as Uruguay got the win 71-69. Andy was limited to three points and two assists and, presumably, thirty lashes from Leo.  Despite the loss, Canada advanced to the quarter-finals, along with seven other nations.

Andy returned to form in the next game, scoring 18 points, but the Canadians got crushed by Puerto Rico 90-70 on Sunday in front of the hometown fans.

The quarter-finals begin on Tuesday when Canada takes on Argentina.  After that they'll play Brazil, Panama and the Dominican Republic.  The top four teams from the 8-team pod then move on to the semis. The top four teams also advance to the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.  It's Teen Wolf time, Andy.  Make it happen.
