Towson Catholic High School. If that name doesn't ring a bell, it should. It's the Baltimore high school that brought us Donte Greene and some guy named Carmelo Anthony. Well, it WAS the Baltimore high school that brought us those great players. The school is closing it's doors due to mounting debt and declining enrollment.
Founded in 1922, the school has produced the aforementioned NBA stars as well an Olympic athlete and other notable alumni. The enemy, of course, is the economy.
Donte shared his disappointment over the announcement on Twitter yesterday.
sad news 2day twit fam, my high school has closed its doors for good. had some good players of there. melo, @foe23, @jcshooter, and daddy
Foe23 is Malcolm Delaney, who now plays for Virginia Tech and jcshooter is Josh Czerski, who plays for Penn State-York Campus. And Daddy, I think, refers to Donte. Gross.
Luckily for us, they make other high schools in the Baltimore area so we can keep recruiting star talent from there. Like say 2010 recruit C.J. Fair from Baltimore City College High.
