Chaz-Ma-Tazz

It's been rumored for a while now that Chaz Cervino would be leaving the SU football team one way or another.  Turns out that where there's smoke there's fire.  Chaz is transferring to Hofstra.  The reason?  Lack of playing time.

"He’s going to transfer," said Bobby Cervino, Chaz’s dad. "He doesn’t have to sit out because Hofstra is Division I-AA."

The elder Cervino said new Syracuse coach Doug Marrone told Chaz his role would be limited next season.

"He said the difference between Chaz and Wayne Chrebet or Wes Welker is that you have to catch 70 balls a year in college. You’re not going to be able to catch 70 balls a year here. You can either catch five or six balls or you can go somewhere where you can have a better opportunity," Bobby said.

Doug tells it like it is but at least he leaves the door open for those who want an opportunity elsewhere.   Cervino caught three passes for 37 yards last season as a freshman.

Shockingly, Chaz's profile is still active in SUAthletics.  Whether it makes it through the day remains to be seen.  So I guess this also means he's still a part of the team technically, so Marrone can't use that excuse just yet.  Berade him with questions while you can!
