Player: Jared Patrick Kimmel
Number: #90
Position:Defensive End
Year: Senior
Height: 6'6"
Weight:259
Hometown: Harpursville, NY
High School:Harpursville Central
Major: Information Management and Technology.
2006 Results: DNP
2007 Results:Recorded four tackles in four games before a season-ending knee injury ended his season. That injury is completely unrelated to the one he suffered this spring.
2008 Results: Kimmel finally had the chance to do some work on the field, playing in every game and starting ten of them. Recorded 31 tackles and three forced fumbles.
2009 Projections: Assuming he's fully recovered from arthroscopic knee surgery, Kimmel is one of your starting defensive ends this season. Makes sense as he started ten games last season.
How'd He Get Here: Kimmel was highly-regarded in high school where he was rated the 16th-best prospect in the state by SuperPrep. He recorded 60 tackles and 10 sacks as a senior and was named Team MVP. Though there was some interest from schools like UConn and Maryland, SU was the only offer and Kimmel jumped at the chance to play at the same school his Dad played for in the early 80's.
What did Scout/Rivals Say?: Two stars said Rivals, who also listed Kimmel as the No. 13 prospect in New York in 2006. Scout agreed and listed him as a two-star recruit as well.
Money Quote: On who has given him the best life lessons. "Definitely my Dad has, especially with him playing her and playing in the league. He's someone I've learned a lot from."
Links Of Wonder:
What Does Marrone Think?: It's not Marrone but I liked it when Syracuse Post-Standard writer Dave Rahme referred to Kimmel as "255 pounds of prime football beef." NH.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: It's not just the men in the Kimmel family who are athletically-gifted. Jared's sister Lindsey averaged 30 PPG on her high school basketball team and currently plays for Temple.
