Player: Shane Michael Kimmel
Hometown: Ivyland, PA
High School: Council Rock High School
Major: Communication and Rhetorical Studies
2008 Results: DNP
2009 Projections: Shane's firmly planted in the third position at middle linebacker behind two seniors, Derrell Smith and Mike Stenclick. He's got his work cut out for him.
How'd He Get Here:Shane's a bit of a legacy at SU. His uncle Jamie played at SU in the early 80's. So did his other uncle Jerry. And we'll get to his cousin, Jared, in a couple days but he's currently a senior for the Orange. Shane's Dad is no slouch either. He played football at Colgate and then for the Eagles and Redskins. Shane was practically pre-determined to play for the Orange at birth. It also helped that he was named to the 2007 Prep Star All-East Region, 2008 Bucks County All-Star Team, First-team All-S.O.L, Trentonian ALL-Lower Bucks and Philly.com All-Southern PA teams. Syracuse was his only interested party and he signed with the Orange early on.
What did Scout/Rivals Say?: Scout pegged Kimmel as a two-star recruit and rated him the 54th-best middle linebacker in the country. Rivals agreed that he was a two-star player as well.
Money Quote: No quote from Kimmel but here's what Brent Axe said when Shane committed. "a decent linebacker at the high school level, with decent skills, but he needs to show me a lot more before I can see him as a player who can hack it at the Division I level." Color Axe unimpressed...
Links Of Wonder:Here's Shane wearing God-knows-what kind of color combination as part of the spring practice regime.
What Does Marrone Think?: No official word, but as we know, if you're still on the roster at this point, you must be doing something right.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Other than the fact that his dad and two uncles played in the NFL? How bout that Uncle Jamie was once expelled from the SU football team "academic reasons." I'm guessing he was reinstated.
