Phase I was the the return of the prodigal son. Gerry McNamara announced he was opening up a basketball camp in Syracuse. He started making appearances at local quick service eateries. He made the local sportstalk radio rounds. In short, he was back. Phase I complete.
Phase II has now begun. Gerry has signed a deal to make weekly appearances on TK-99 as part of the Gomez & Dave Morning Show.
"I think it's a good thing for Galaxy and TK99 and it's a good thing for Gerry, too, " Levine said. "Gerry McNamara is Syracuse. He's a Scranton native, but this is his adoptive hometown."
"It'll be exciting to get on the radio and talk about stuff that I talk about with my buddies all the time, " McNamara said Thursday. "I think it's going to be fun."
Gerry joins a roster of radio show friends that is unrivaled in the industry. Master Chief Meteorologist Wayne Mahar is sure to put Gerry under his wings and teach him the fine art of broadcasting. And if Gerry & Mr. Skin cross paths on Thursday mornings, well, it's what we've all been waiting for.
Savvy move for Gerry. He knows that if he wants it, a lifetime job on the radio or TV in the Syracuse market is his. Might as well figure out if he likes doing it. Plus, this keeps him at the forefront of all things SU sports, and specifically, SU basketball. So when Phase III, Gerry taking a job as an SU basketball assistant coach happens, he will be ready. And if Phase III doesn't work out, there's always Phase III-B, SU Basketball Color Commentator For Life.
