Player: Torrey Ball

Number: #95

Position: Defensive End

Weight: 250 lbs

Hometown:  Athens, GA

High School: Cedar Shoals / Georgia Military College (JuCo)

Major: N/A

2009 Projections: Torrey is a sophomore eligibility-wise but this is his first season with the Orange.  He's currently third in line behind Zary Stewart and Jared Kimmel at DE.

How'd He Get Here:I'll let Donnie explain:

Ball played one season at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. He was an academic qualifier coming out of Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Ga., Williams said, but was not mature physically. Williams said Ball was 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds when he arrived and is now about 6-4 1/2 and 250 pounds.

"He's a guy that looks pretty darn good," [GMC head coach Bert] Williams said of Ball. "He's got a great motor, plays hard, all those things you want a guy to do."

Ball was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-America Second Team after recording 31 tackles, three sacks, 5 TFL, two forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.  Not to mention that, by all accounts, he's a pretty smart guy.

After visiting with a couple schools, including Minnesota, Ball chose Syracuse in January.  He was also apparently looking at Duke and Appalachian State.  Greg Adkins recruited Torrey.

What did Scout/Rivals Say?: Rivals rated Ball as a two-star recruit and so did Scout.

Money Quote: "Whooo." - Torrey imitating Ric Flair.

Links Of Wonder:The Torrey Factor, a story from Ball's high school days about his potential and desire to win a state championship (Alas, he did not).

What Does Marrone Think?: "We battled teams for him with high academic standards. When you talk about junior-college players, you're talking about someone who's at a level of maturity where he can come in and compete."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: If the SU basketball team ever needs some help in the paint, Torrey is available.  He once put up a statline in high school that read 20 rebounds,16 points, six assists and four steals.

Let Me Get a Good Look At You:Sorry, couldn't find any video on Torrey, so you're just gonna have to settle for a photo:
