It's time to get our first live look at the new and improved Syracuse football team and who better to take us by the hand and lead us than someone with the on-camera panache and joie de vivre that Donnie Webb possesses:
Donnie Webb's Orange Football Report: Spring Practice, Day Two |
Feel the excitement! (And the fancy graphics too. Nice work, folks. )
The big news that shook SU football to its core yesterday was the revamped linebacking core which now includes former RB Doug Hogue and WR Dan Sheeran. Doug Marrone...explain yourself!!!
“We wanted to make sure we could get better at that position athletically, bringing in some people that can run with some decent size and also, at the same time, create competition at that position.”
For what it's worth, Hogue has no complaints:
On Tuesday, he got a call from Marrone to come by his office. They talked and in Hogue's words, Marrone "told me the good news." The position switch was made. On Wednesday, Hogue had traded in his green jersey for a red one and worked exclusively with the first-team defense.
"If it's going to help the team, I'm going to do whatever it takes to help the team," Hogue said Wednesday night. "If he tells me to play running back, I'll play running back. If he asks me to kick, I'm going to do whatever I've got to do to help the team.
Quote of the day though goes back to Marrone who, in one sentence, sums up the reality of being the head coach of Syracuse football:
Head coach Doug Marrone is spending time coaching the offensive tackles. Let's just say the commentary Marrone offers is hysterical ... and brutal. "It sucks to be me," Marrone told the players.
Sucks like a fox, Doug.
