It took a little less than two months for the Big East to prove the pundits wrong. Last week, the league placed five teams in The Associated Press poll’s top 15, including Syracuse at No. 5, West Virginia at No. 6 and Villanova at No. 8.

Syracuse, which has risen from unranked to No. 5 in The Associated Press poll thanks, received six first-place votes. West Virginia placed second, even though the Mountaineers got just three first-place votes compared to the five that went to Villanova.
