I'm not one to schill for Mitch Albom but I just had to make sure you read this column from way back in 1985 about the Cherry Bowl match-up between Syracuse and Maryland. The oozing sarcasm is fantastic, here's just a taste:
Bowls are supposed to be celebrations. Pageantry. A Mardi Gras squeezed into a football stadium. Not Saturday. Not at the Silverdome...Why? Well, for one thing, the teams playing in the Cherry Bowl were Syracuse and Maryland, which would have been fine if this was Syracuse or Maryland, or even Indianapolis.
If for nothing else, check it out for an un-ironic reference to Cabbage Patch Kids.
