'Cusian Of The Year - Second Round

In the interest of moving things along, let's put the entire second round of the 'Cusian of the Year to a vote all at once. Below are your choices and winners from round one. As reminder, here's what you're voting for:

I've picked the 16 people who I feel have most influenced Syracuse athletics in 2007. You may haggle with me over the exclusion of certain players from basketball and football but know it was a tough call towards the end there. There were people in their programs that had more of an effect than them and ultimately there was more going on than just basketball and football (believe it or not).

The rules are simple:

1. We're doing this like Time Magazine picks their Person of the Year. It's not a popularity contest and it's not about who you like's about who had a greater effect on Syracuse athletics throughout the year. Throw personal opinion out the door.

2. You can vote once a day so feel free to keep coming back. Each match-up will last approx. three days.

3. The seeds are completely arbitrary and assigned by me. We'll see how close (or far off) the pulse of Orange Nation I am.

Without further ado, let's get to it:

#1 DOCTOR Daryl Gross
Canceled swimming and diving programs for less than clear reasons.
Hired "his" coach.
Put Mike Hopkins in his place.
Responded to your emails.
Preferred it if SU students would "hush up."
Got his very own website.
Took his time with Robinson's fate.
Stood by Greg Robinson, kinda.

#8 Donte Greene

Was highly touted before he even got here.
Confirmed his spot atop the SU offense
Appreciated nationally.
Scored a lot.

#5 Mike Hopkins

Rumored to succeed Boeheim one day.
Was named Jim Boeheim's succesor

No he wasn't!
Put his faith in God and not the one named Jim
Caused discussion

#13 Jonny Flynn

Needed to decide on a spelling
Led America to glory
Had expectations heaped onto him
Began living up to expectations
Took this whole leadership thing to heart
Just getting started.

#3 Jim Boeheim

Stepped on the court for the 1,000th time as head coach
Threw down with Doug Gottlieb
Set up his replacement
Disliked Gary Walters
Made some duckets
Was accused of the inexcusable sin of cursing

#6 Mike Williams

Was a highlight in an otherwise dull season.
Voiced his opinion.
Had a thing about dynasties.
Broke some records.
Became team MVP.
Carried on a Syracuse two-sport tradition.

#2 Greg Robinson
Made some enemies
Inspired a drinking game
Actually won a big game
Cracked some jokes
Fought the fight
Made his mark after the games were over
Spoke less-than-highly about Rutgers
Made some cash
Kept his job
Actually started recruiting well

#10 Demetris Nichols
Did what he could.

Threw down 37 (in a row???) against the Johnnies.
Finished strong.
Considered the team MVP by those whose opinion matters most
Won some other accolades as well.
Even the AP loved them some Demetris
